Religious Accommodations Policy

The Institution will, where appropriate, provide reasonable accommodations for an employee or student’s religious beliefs, practice, or observance, unless doing so would create an undue hardship on the Institution. Consistent with applicable law and legal precedent, an undue hardship exists only when the requested accommodation would impose a substantial burden in relation to the conduct of Institution’s business. Undue hardship determinations will be made on a case-by-case basis, considering all relevant factors.

Employees or students seeking a religious accommodation shall notify Team Member Relations in writing via email at ashley.marra@wvjc.edu, and describe the religious belief, practice, or observance requiring accommodation and the requested accommodation. The Institution may engage in an interactive process with the employee or student to explore reasonable alternatives.

While the Institution does not require employees or students provide documentation from clergy or religious authorities, additional information may be requested where necessary to evaluate the request.

This policy will be administered in a manner consistent with Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, applicable state law, and relevant judicial precedent.
